Job summary

Emerson Power & Water Solutions seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical designs and fabrication drawings for hydro power automation projects. You will work with controls engineers, project teams, and customers from concept through installation across North America.

The role requires 2+ years in mechanical design, CAD proficiency (Inventor/SolidWorks/Creo/Fusion 360/AutoCAD), and knowledge of hydraulics and instrumentation. Travel up to 15% may be needed.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent
• 2+ years of mechanical design experience in automation or similar
• Experience developing fabrication drawings and installation packages
• Proficiency with CAD software (Inventor/SolidWorks/Creo/Fusion 360/AutoCAD)
• Knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems and instrumentation
• Understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
• Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic schematics
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
• Willing to travel up to 15% within North America
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical models, assemblies, and drawings using CAD tools
• Design custom automation equipment and mounting systems
• Create tubing, piping, and equipment layouts for automation and control systems
• Develop BOMs, fabrication packages, and assembly instructions
• Support system integration with sensors, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, VFDs, PLCs and DCS
• Interpret mechanical/electrical/hydraulic schematics for integration
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams throughout lifecycle
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement
• Assist with procurement through component specs and reviews
• Coordinate with fabrication and installation teams to resolve issues
• Maintain documentation and revision control
• Assist with startup, installation support, and commissioning when required
