Job description

Lead Mechanical Engineer – Biopharma Life Sciences

The Lead Mechanical Engineer specializes in Biopharma Life Sciences and collaborates within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to develop comprehensive construction documents for critical systems, including HVAC (wet and dry), plumbing, controls, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Performs engineering tasks for the design of utilities and HVAC (wet/dry) systems for high technology facilities including cleanrooms, pharmaceutical manufacturing/process facilities, and life science facilities.
  • Prepares mechanical engineering calculations in support of HVAC systems design, including heat load calculations, duct sizing, chilled water hydraulics, static pressure calculations, equipment sizing and selection.
  • Plans and schedules discipline deliverables and activities, including man‑hour estimation, assigning personnel, and supervising discipline personnel on the projects.
  • Supports project on‑site execution and makes decisions to support projects, acting as a technical consultant.
  • Develops manpower and labor cost requirements for a project and monitors them to aid in evaluating project schedule and budget.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high‑quality, cost‑effective work by the discipline team.
  • Develops conceptual, preliminary, and final design documents, including calculations related to sizing and selecting these systems, and the development of Process and Instrumentation.
  • Creates diagrams, general arrangements, and sequences of operation associated with these systems.
  • Works closely in coordination with the project team and other disciplines as well as other design offices.
  • Coordinates with disciplines in the preparation and development of deliverables, ensuring those other disciplines’ inputs are incorporated.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Building Systems Software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nation Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Record.
  • Thorough knowledge of codes and industry standards related to the design of biologics and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and systems.
  • Consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Experience in the quality control review process.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement processes.
