Job summary

North Wind in Newport News, VA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Supervisor to lead the mechanical design of ground test articles, flight vehicles, test cells and facility systems. You will supervise a team of mechanical, instrumentation and fluid design engineers.

You will perform conceptual and detailed mechanical design, create 3D CAD models (SOLIDWORKS preferred), manage budgets and schedules, review customer specifications, and participate in design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 10+ years of related experience, or equivalent mix of education/experience.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a cross-functional team.
• U.S. citizenship required to obtain/maintain a DOD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Performs conceptual and detailed mechanical design; creates 3D parametric CAD models; performs drawing checks; conducts fit analysis; selects components; integrates instrumentation.
• Supervises a team of engineers, mentors staff, manages budgets/schedules and tracks performance.
• Leads reviews with customers; manages requirements/risks; develops task lists and schedules; reports earned value/ETC.
• Supports customer interface meetings and on-site integration/testing as needed.
• Documents design outputs; maintains standard work processes; develops tools to improve team efficiency.
