Job summary

Bluewater Consulting Services (BCS) seeks a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Supervisor for a high-density AI data center project in New York. You will lead mechanical commissioning of liquid cooling and HVAC systems, direct field crews, and drive turnover to operations.

Candidates should have 7+ years across mechanical construction, HVAC/piping, and commissioning supervision; hands-on startup/testing of chillers and pumps; knowledge of ASHRAE/ASME/SMACNA codes; data center cooling experience

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years across mechanical construction, HVAC/piping, and commissioning supervision on mission-critical or industrial projects.
• Hands-on leadership of mechanical/HVAC commissioning teams, startup/testing of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CDUs.
• Construction experience inspecting installations against drawings, specs, and codes.
• Knowledge of commissioning processes, ITRs and turnover documentation on mission-critical infra.
• Data center or industrial cooling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical commissioning across liquid cooling and HVAC systems (CDUs, in-rack manifolds, rear-door heat exchangers).
• Direct field commissioning crews through startup, functional tests, and IST; witness contractor/test results.
• Review contractor work against drawings, specs, and standards; document nonconformances and track resolutions.

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Commissioning Supervisor (1)

Location: New York

Start Date: ASAP, candidates expected to be on-site within 2 weeks

Duration: 10-12 months

COMPENSATION & LOGISTICS

Pay Rate: $75/hr straight time | $112.50/hr OT (anything in excess of 40 per week)

Per Diem: $155/day seven days a week regardless of work schedule.

Mobilization: Miles at the government rate, meals ($68/day receipts not required), travel time at the ST rate, and any lodging expensed back according to receipts.

Home Leave: Home leave is provided once a month after initial 8 weeks; travel expenses (mileage or flight) reimbursed.

Estimated Hours: Best estimate is average in the 60's over the course of the project. Schedule is client-directed and will fluctuate week to week.

Project Overview

The Client is seeking a contract Lead Mechanical Commissioning Supervisor to support construction, quality, and commissioning activities on a high-density AI data center project. This individual will lead mechanical commissioning of liquid cooling and HVAC systems, direct field crews through equipment startup and testing, and drive systems through turnover to operations. The role requires a blend of mechanical construction and commissioning leadership experience, backed by hands-on knowledge of piping, pumps, chillers, and liquid cooling infrastructure on industrial and/or mission-critical projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead mechanical commissioning activities across liquid cooling and HVAC systems, including coolant distribution units (CDUs), in-rack manifolds, rear-door heat exchangers, chillers, cooling towers, and pumps
• Direct field commissioning crews and subcontractors through equipment startup, functional testing, and integrated systems testing (IST); witness and verify test results performed by contractors and equipment OEMs
• Review contractor work against drawings, specifications, and applicable standards (ASHRAE, ASME, SMACNA); identify, document, and track nonconformances through resolution
• Support commissioning and turnover activities, including system walkdowns, punch list development, and turnover documentation
• Track completion of commissioning checklists, ITRs, and deficiency logs; report progress and open items to the Client’s project leadership
• Develop and support review of startup procedures, flushing and cleaning plans, and safe work permits for mechanical systems
• Coordinate between construction contractors, equipment OEMs, and the Client’s engineering and commissioning teams
• Maintain organized records of inspections, test reports, nonconformances, and turnover packages
• Participate in daily and weekly coordination meetings as directed by the Client’s project leadership
• Comply with all site safety programs, OSHA requirements, and Client safety protocols, including safe practices around pressurized piping and rotating mechanical equipment

Ideal Candidate Profile

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of combined experience across mechanical construction, HVAC/piping systems, and commissioning supervision, ideally on mission-critical or industrial projects
• Hands-on leadership of mechanical/HVAC commissioning teams, including startup and testing of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CDUs, and liquid cooling distribution systems; OEM commissioning experience (e.g., Motivair, Schneider Electric) a plus
• Construction experience on industrial mechanical and/or data center projects, with the ability to inspect installations against drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
• Working knowledge of commissioning processes, ITR and checklist execution, and turnover documentation on mission-critical infrastructure projects
• Strong working knowledge of piping, pump, and chiller systems and safe practices around pressurized and rotating mechanical equipment; data center or industrial cooling experience preferred
