Job summary

AppleOne Employment Services is seeking a Lead Mechanic in Hayward, CA for a direct hire role. You will lead both shop and field repair operations on heavy equipment, perform advanced diagnostics, and mentor junior technicians to ensure quality repairs, safety, and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• Lead daily shop and field repair operations for heavy equipment and fleet repair work.
• Perform advanced electrical and hydraulic diagnostics using schematics, diagrams, and diagnostic tools.
• Oversee work orders, mentor junior technicians, and promote safe, efficient repair practices.
• Complete customer-facing field repairs with professionalism and clear communication.
• Heavy duty, fleet, industrial, or heavy-equipment mechanic experience required.
• 10+ years of overall mechanic experience ideal for lead-level role with strong hands-on experience.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical service information.
• Experience diagnosing wiring, sensors, engine controls, charging systems, CAN bus issues, hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, and hoses.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software, heavy component handling, preventive maintenance, and repair documentation.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor technicians and work effectively with customers in the field.
• Commitment to safety standards, including OSHA, lockout/tagout, and HazCom practices.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair advanced electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, sensors, engine controls, multiplexing, charging circuits, and CAN bus communication issues.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, and high-pressure hose systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and major repairs on engines, transmissions, drivelines, brakes, suspensions, and related heavy-equipment components.
• Assign, prioritize, and oversee daily work orders while mentoring junior mechanics in diagnostics, repair quality, and safe work practices.
• Maintain accurate repair logs and CMMS records while enforcing OSHA, LOTO, and HazCom safety protocols.
• Complete field emergency repairs, perform basic welding and fabrication, and represent the company professionally in customer-facing repair situations.

This role is ideal for an experienced heavy-equipment mechanic who is confident leading shop and field repair operations, performing advanced diagnostics, and mentoring junior technicians. The Lead Mechanic will work in a hands-on environment focused on quality repairs, safety, teamwork, and customer service. Key Responsibilities

Compensation and Benefits
