Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Specialist I (S) for the Lead Technician role in the M&T Structural Materials Lab in Raleigh. This hands-on position performs routine material tests and evaluations to provide Quality Assurance for materials used in North Carolina roadways, following AASHTO/ASTM procedures.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in engineering technology with 6 years of progressive technician experience.
• High School diploma or GED with 8 years of progressive technician experience.
• Experience performing field or laboratory-based tests on engineered materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine material tests in a laboratory environment to provide QA for materials used in NC roadways.
• Maintain qualifications and testing to support laboratory accreditation.
• Follow SOPs and ASTM/AASHTO methods and calibrate testing equipment.
• Coordinate time-sensitive tests and review data to ensure accuracy and trends.
