Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA, seeks a Materials Engineer & Additive Manufacturing Lead to drive the development, qualification, and maturation of advanced materials for next-generation nuclear systems.

You will guide AM technology maturation, develop process innovations, and support design, fabrication, and testing of components for terrestrial microreactors, radioisotope power systems, and space nuclear applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree may substitute.
• Hands-on experience with AM, LPBF/EBM process development and parameter optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead BWXT’s additive manufacturing initiatives and set strategy.
• Operate and optimize AM equipment to meet complex objectives.
• Develop advanced material systems and support design, fabrication, and testing of nuclear components.
• Oversee material characterization using SEM, XRD, rheology, and related techniques.
• Prepare material performance specs and manufacturing guidance.
• Collaborate with design, fabrication, and research teams to resolve AM-related challenges.
