Job summary

The Inland Group of Companies is hiring for a Lead Material Handler to support transportation handling services at the BWI area. The role focuses on leading peers, expediting and routing cargo movements for air transportation, and maintaining safety standards.

Two positions are available for the 2am–10am shift. Benefits include health, dental and life insurance, 401(k) with company match and on-the-job training. Prior shipping experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English.
• Must be able to verbally direct in English.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Builds up and breaks down cargo pallets and freight containers following guidelines.
• Ensures all safety standards are met and maintained.
• Identifies cargo not meeting standards and guidelines.
• Organizes freight within the warehouse according to the storage plan.
• Loads and unloads freight safely.

Position Overview:

A Lead is a subject matter expert who coaches, motivates and guides operational work performed by their peers. Leads are responsible for monitoring and reporting any extraordinary performance or deviations from operational standards. As a cargo agent, you will assist customers during the shipping and handling process by expediting and routing movement of incoming and outgoing cargo and freight shipments for air transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

• Builds up and breaks down cargo pallets and freight containers following guidelines;
• Ensures all company and customer safety standards are met and maintained;
• Identifies cargo that does not meet customer or company standards and or guidelines;
• Organizes freight within the warehouse according to the base storage plan;
• Properly and safely loads and unloads freight;

Required Skills and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred;
• Must be at least 18 years old;
• A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
• Previous shipping experience preferred but not required;
• Maintain and treat all information as confidential;
• Possess the tact to deal with all levels of employees and client representatives;
• Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English;
• Must be able to verbally direct in English;

Work Environment:

• Indoor environment which may contain small, close or confined space(s).

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to squat, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crawl in awkward positions;
• Must be able to lift, push pull up to 75 pounds at times;
• May be exposed to hazards inherent in airport operations, including noise, vehicles, equipment, and weather, all of which are well-managed with a high level of training, personal protective equipment, and safety procedures.
