We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Mason to join our team for the seasonal period from April to November.
Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of masonry work on diverse hardscaping projects, ensuring timely and high-quality completion.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements and ensure accurate implementation.
- Select appropriate stones and materials based on project needs, considering durability, aesthetics, and budget.
- Cut, shape, and finish stones using hand and power tools to achieve precise dimensions and desired finishes.
- Lay stones in various patterns and techniques, including dry stone walling, mortared walls, and paving.
- Mix and apply mortar, grout, and other bonding agents to ensure proper consistency and adhesion.
- Construct and repair stone structures such as walls, walkways, patios, and retaining walls.
- Operate equipment including small and mid-size excavators, mini skid steers, skid steers, small dozers, and stone saws.
- Provide coaching and guidance to a mason tender, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure projects meet company standards and client specifications.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and ensure their availability for use.
- Track time and materials used on jobs for accurate project management.
- Promote and adhere to safety regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Adjust work procedures as needed to accommodate seasonal changes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a stonemason, with extensive knowledge of stone types and applications.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools for stone cutting and shaping.
- Experience operating relevant construction equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with adaptability to changing project requirements.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy materials.
- Valid driver's license.
- Reliable and punctual work habits.
- Passion for stonework and landscaping.
- Certification or training in stonemasonry or a related field (preferred).
- Experience with specialized stonemasonry techniques, such as dry stone walling or historical restoration (preferred).
- Knowledge of landscape design principles (preferred).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, Silica Safety Training, CPR and First Aid/BBP Certification, or other relevant certifications (preferred).
