Job summary

UCLA Health seeks a Lead Manufacturing Scientist for the Center for Advanced Biotherapies to oversee GMP production of gene and cell therapies. You will manage manufacturing staff, ensure quality controls, and drive projects from development to clinical-scale production.

The role requires advanced tissue culture expertise and strong cross-functional leadership in a GMP setting. The candidate should have a science degree with GMP experience, knowledge of biosafety, and ability to work flexible

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Master of Science or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, or related field with minimum 2 years GMP manufacturing experience.
• Experience with aseptic technique and tissue culture.
• Familiarity with GMP, GLP regulations.
• Knowledge of SOPs and QC requirements in GMP labs.
• Ability to work independently and follow SOPs.
• Ability to wear protective clothing for extended periods.
• Ability to work flexible hours and cover shifts as needed.
• Strong interpersonal and cross-department communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of cell culture, bioreactor operation and scale-up, centrifugation, filtration, and product characterization.
• Demonstrated project and personnel management experience.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture human gene and cell therapy products under GMP.
• Oversee manufacturing associates and manage projects.
• Conduct and manage quality control testing to ensure product quality.
