Job summary

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer to lead mainframe data conversions for loan acquisition projects. You will design, develop, and test COBOL/JCL programs that transform source data into MSP, and you will own technical outcomes across multiple conversions.

Work closely with Business Analysts, consultants, and managers to translate mapping specs into reliable code, perform thorough unit testing, and support go-live activities in fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent technical experience will be considered
• 4+ years of experience in mainframe development, mortgage servicing technology, or data conversion programming roles
• Acquisition and/or system conversion development experience
• Working knowledge of MSP and mortgage servicing data structures and processing
• Strong understanding of data extraction, transformation, and loading between source systems and target MSP platforms
• Required technical skills: COBOL, JCL, VSAM, IBM z/OS mainframe environment
• Preferred technical skills: ISPF/SDSF, File-AID, Endeavour or ChangeMan, MQ Series, DB2
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with structured investigation
• Able to form hypotheses and test through code and data analysis
• Ownership mindset for technical problems from identification to resolution
• Comfortable with evolving mapping specs and resolving ambiguities with Analysts
• Clear written and verbal communication to explain technical findings
• Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects
• Detail-oriented with ability to identify patterns across projects
• Collaborative team player delivering quality code under tight timelines

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and unit test mainframe COBOL programs and JCL for assigned acquisition data conversion projects
• Own technical outcomes and code accuracy for all assigned conversion programs
• Complete development work within established project timelines and escalate technical risks or blockers
• Manage and prioritize development workload across multiple concurrent conversion projects
• Analyze mapping specifications to understand conversion logic and MSP requirements
• Translate mapping specifications into COBOL programs and JCL procedures
• Identify gaps in mapping specifications and raise them with Business Analysts
• Partner with Business Analysts to clarify conversion logic and validate alignment with business intent
• Conduct thorough unit testing to validate data completeness and accuracy
• Analyze test results, file reconciliations, and output discrepancies to identify root cause
• Independently debug conversion programs using structured diagnostic techniques
• Verify resolutions through regression testing in coordination with the Analyst
• Work directly with Analysts to review mapping specs and align on delivery approach
• Communicate technical constraints, risks, and findings clearly to Analysts and PMs
• Support testing and implementation phases with rapid investigation of issues
• Provide timely follow-up on technical findings and issue status
• Collaborate with team to maintain development momentum and resolve blockers
• Coordinate handoffs between analysis, coding, and testing
• Provide clear technical guidance and code documentation
• Identify recurrent issues and contribute to reusable code libraries
• Participate in developing coding standards and runbooks
• Identify issues that may affect multiple projects and propose systemic solutions
