Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
• Ensure nursing personnel comply with the facility's written policies and procedures.
• Review department policies, manuals, and job descriptions; recommend revisions.
• Plan shifts' services, programs, and activities with staff.
• Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual and ensure up-to-date content.
• Provide written and oral reports on shift activities as required.
• Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain total care.
• Ensure all nursing staff follow their job descriptions and standards.
• Participate in the facility's quality assurance program and in surveys by government agencies.
• Assist in planning discharge and interpretation of policies to staff, residents, and visitors.
• Complete required recordkeeping forms and ensure nurses’ notes are accurate.
• Receive and transcribe physicians’ orders, and document treatment plans.
• Chart, sign, and date entries in the resident’s medical record.
• Administer medications as ordered; verify resident identity; manage narcotics records.
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel; supervise and develop staff.
• Perform routine charting and ensure documentation policies are followed.
• Maintain safety and sanitation standards within the nursing unit.
