Job summary

TEKsystems is hiring for a Charleston, SC-based role focusing on leading field crews in structured cabling and security system installations. The position involves mentoring technicians, reviewing drawings, and coordinating daily field activities to ensure quality and safety across commercial projects.

You will install and certify Cat6/Cat6A cabling, fiber optic systems, access control, and surveillance components, while maintaining thorough documentation and meeting client standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, low-voltage, or electronic security systems.
• Previous experience leading technicians or serving as a field lead.
• Strong knowledge of structured cabling standards, fiber installation and testing, cable pathways, and access control/surveillance systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, and construction documents.
• Experience with cable certification testers and fiber testing equipment preferred.

Direct Hire | $35-$40/hr + Company Vehicle + Benefits

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor small crews on active project sites.
• Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and certify:
  • Cat6 and Cat6A cabling
  • Single-mode and multimode fiber optic systems
  • Racks, cabinets, patch panels, pathways, and cable management systems
• Support installation and troubleshooting of:
  • Access control systems
  • Surveillance cameras
  • Card readers
  • Electric strikes
  • Magnetic locks
  • Door hardware and related security devices
• Review project drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, and scopes of work.
• Perform copper certification and fiber testing, interpret results, and resolve deficiencies.
• Coordinate daily jobsite activities and assign work based on technician skill level.
• Maintain project documentation including testing records, progress updates, photos, and as-built information.
• Communicate professionally with customers, general contractors, project managers, and other trades.
• Ensure installations meet quality, safety, and customer standards.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, low-voltage, or electronic security systems.
• Previous experience leading technicians or serving as a field lead.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Structured cabling standards
  • Fiber optic installation and testing
  • Cable pathways, J-hooks, cable tray, and support systems
  • Access control and surveillance systems
• Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, and construction documents.
• Experience with cable certification testers and fiber testing equipment preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
• OSHA, BICSI, manufacturer certifications, lift certifications, or similar credentials are a plus.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Schedule

Four 10-hour shifts (Monday-Thursday)

Typical hours: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Overtime opportunities may be available on Fridays and Saturdays as needed.

Some projects may require alternative schedules or after-hours work, particularly in schools or occupied facilities.

Travel

This position primarily supports projects throughout the Charleston, Beaufort, and Bluffton areas. Local and regional travel is required based on project demands.
