Overview
The Lead Line Operator is responsible for training new Line Operator Trainees and the ongoing training and performance evaluation of current Line Operators. This includes covering paperwork, production methods, quality assurance, plant operations, continuous improvement, and safety. The role requires a positive attitude, teamwork, and embodying Pioneer’s corporate values.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform all duties outlined in the Line Operator job description.
- Evaluate, discipline, and motivate the Line Operator team, collaborating with plant Supervisors on staffing and discipline decisions.
- Complete written reviews for each Line Operator per shift, discuss results with individuals, and obtain approval from the Plant Supervisor before discussion.
- Coordinate with production Team Leaders and Supervisors to meet or exceed production schedules.
- Adjust staffing as needed when performing training duties.
- Communicate business goals and metrics to the Line Operator team.
- Train and coach Line Operators and Trainees on techniques, procedures, and work habits to ensure quality production.
- Provide training documents and administer tests for Line Operators and Trainees.
- Proactively address process or tooling issues and halt production if necessary for corrective action.
- Enforce company policies regarding employee supervision.
- Identify operating irregularities, machine malfunctions, and safety issues, notifying supervisors accordingly. Ensure team compliance with safety policies.
- Minimize scrap and rework by ensuring procedures are followed and rework parts are processed properly.
- Operate inspection equipment proficiently and train team members in its use and calibration.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
- Perform additional duties as directed by management.
- Promote good housekeeping practices.
- Be available for alternate and overtime shifts as needed.
- Adhere to and train team members on QMS policies and procedures.
- Identify and communicate issues with customer products, such as excessive oil, holes, corrosion, etc.
- Coordinate with operators on production needs and relay operational information.
- Question and improve operating methods based on experience.
- Lead Tank Maintenance Teams on a rotating schedule.
- Create procedures and work instructions for continuous improvement.
- Address corrective actions for the line or operators.
- Understand and assist with troubleshooting equipment such as rectifiers, pumps, chillers, and computers.
Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards
- Work involves sharp parts, tooling, heavy carts, temperature variations, heat from ovens, noise, chemical exposure, and the need for hearing protection.
- Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs unassisted.
- Must differentiate color variations.
- Potential splash exposure near process lines.
Education/Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- 1-2 years of leadership experience.
- Previous experience as a line operator.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
