Overview
The Lead Line Operator is responsible for training new Line Operator Trainees and the ongoing training and performance evaluation of existing Line Operators. This includes paperwork, production methods, quality assurance, plant operations, continuous improvement, and safety. The Lead Line Operator promotes a positive attitude and teamwork, embodying Pioneer’s values within the team.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform all duties outlined in the Line Operator job description.
- Evaluate, discipline, and motivate the Line Operator team; collaborate with plant Supervisors on staffing and disciplinary actions.
- Complete written reviews for each Line Operator on their shift; discuss results with individuals after approval by the Plant Supervisor.
- Coordinate with production Team Leaders and Supervisors to meet or exceed customer production schedules.
- Adjust staffing for training duties as needed.
- Communicate business goals and metrics to the team.
- Instruct, train, and coach Line Operators and Trainees in proper techniques, procedures, and work habits to ensure consistent quality.
- Provide training documents and administer tests for Line Operators and Trainees.
- Proactively address process or tooling issues; halt production if necessary and notify relevant personnel.
- Enforce company policies regarding employee supervision.
- Identify operating irregularities, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions; notify supervisors. Ensure team compliance with safety policies.
- Minimize scrap and rework; ensure procedures are followed and rework is documented and approved.
- Operate inspection equipment proficiently; train team members in its use and calibration.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by management.
- Promote good housekeeping practices.
- Be available for alternate and overtime shifts as required.
- Train team members on policies and procedures per QMS standards.
- Identify and communicate issues with customer products, such as oil, holes, corrosion, etc.
- Coordinate with operators on product specifics and operational needs.
- Question operating methods and use experience to guide procedures; relay useful information to operators.
- Lead Tank Maintenance Teams on a rotating schedule.
- Create procedures or work instructions for continuous improvement.
- Address corrective actions related to the line or operators.
- Understand all equipment functions involved in production; assist in troubleshooting when possible.
Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards
- Be aware of hazards such as sharp tools, heavy carts, temperature extremes, heat from ovens, noise, chemical exposure, and the need for hearing protection.
- Lift 30-50 lbs unassisted.
- Differentiate color variances.
- Potential splash exposure near process lines.
- Handle various chemicals used in processes.
Education/Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- 1-2 years of leadership experience.
- Prior experience as a line operator.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
