Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. seeks a Principal Applied Scientist to set the scientific direction for life sciences AI products. You will define research agendas, design novel approaches, and deliver models enabling customers to achieve capabilities not previously possible.

Work spans drug discovery and clinical operations, requiring deep expertise in LLMs, agentic AI, and domain biology. You will shepherd research to production, mentoring scientists and collaborating with product teams.

Qualifications

• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related field.
• Senior or principal-level applied scientist with track record.
• Deep expertise in LLMs, reasoning systems, and agentic AI.
• Strong publication record in ML or computational biology venues.
• Demonstrated model customization techniques (fine-tuning, RLHF, retrieval augmentation).
• Domain experience in life sciences, computational biology, or related fields.
• Experience translating research into products or services used by customers.

Responsibilities

• Set the scientific direction for LLM reasoning and agentic AI across the portfolio.
• Innovate on reasoning, planning, and agentic approaches for complex workflows.
• Develop model customization methods for customer data with less effort.
• Advance methods to adapt biological foundation models for applications.
• Publish at top-tier venues and build external scientific reputation.
• Mentor scientists and translate research into shipped products.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to deliver customer-facing capabilities.
• Influence multi-year research roadmaps with expertise and customer insight.
• Lead research from academia to production-scale delivery.
