Job summary

David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) seeks a Lead LiDAR Data Extraction Technician in Salt Lake City, UT. The role focuses on acquiring, processing, and reviewing LiDAR data sets using UAVs, mobile scanners, and laser systems to support engineering and surveying projects.

The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, lead extraction tasks, and help develop internal processing standards while coordinating with surveyors, engineers, and GIS professionals. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience with 3D laser scanning, inertial navigation, GPS data collection, and data post-processing.
• Strong knowledge of geospatial data formats and datums/coordinate systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willing to travel for extended periods.
• FAA Part 107 UAV operations knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end LiDAR surveys and processing for trajectory-based systems.
• Perform QA/QC in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Develop and refine internal LiDAR processing standards and best practices.
• Classify, filter, and extract features from point clouds and deliver DTMs/3D models.
• Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and GIS professionals to support project needs.
• Mentor junior technicians and lead extraction-based tasks.
• Evaluate and implement new LiDAR technologies and software tools.
