Job description

About The Role:

Disney Digital Entertainment is seeking a Lead Level Designer to join an ambitious new project. If you are a creative professional with excellent game development skills and a passion for Disney/Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel properties, this is an exciting opportunity for you!

We are assembling a talented development team to craft innovative game experiences that represent the next generation of Disney entertainment. Collaborating with top industry talent, this role is ideal for experienced game developers eager to create something epic—focusing on individual experiences within a cohesive and rich Disney-themed product.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Lead Game Designer.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with project leads and developers to design engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Lead a level design team, managing their work and guiding level development within a cross-disciplinary team structure.
  • Contribute hands-on to content creation for interactive games based on Disney’s extensive portfolio, including Disney/Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.
  • Design levels using Unreal Engine, UEFN, and scripting in Verse, in both development and live service contexts.
  • Work with the art team to craft compelling gameplay environments.
  • Design, implement, and refine gameplay elements such as puzzles, combat, and quests.
  • Maintain detailed level design documentation.
  • Mentor and guide other Level Designers.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • At least 8 years of game development experience, including shipping at least one game in a Lead role.
  • Experience leading and developing multiple shipped products across various platforms (Console, PC, Mobile).
  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine and/or UEFN, and scripting languages such as C++, Blueprints, or Verse.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work through challenging problems with stakeholders.
  • A deep appreciation for Disney’s IP, including characters, lore, media, franchises, and theme parks aesthetics.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
  • Solid understanding of level design principles and what makes engaging gameplay spaces.
  • Experience with 3D game engines, understanding their strengths and limitations for level design.
  • Effective communication skills across teams.
  • Knowledge of best practices in level design for various game styles.
  • A passion for creating new, engaging multiplayer experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UEFN and Verse scripting.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Game Design or equivalent experience preferred.

The salary range for this remote position is $118,900 to $183,400 annually, depending on location and experience. Compensation may include bonuses or incentives, along with full benefits.
