Job summary

Pearson seeks a Lead Specialist, Learning Scientist (Clinical) to lead research across domains including speech-language pathology, literacy, cognition, and early childhood assessment. The role blends clinical expertise with strategic research leadership to translate business needs into rigorous scientific priorities.

You will collaborate with Content, Product, Psychometrics, and Digital Development, applying AI and emerging technologies to advance research, product development, and adoption.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in speech, literacy, or early childhood assessment.
• Clinical experience with standardized assessments.
• Strong knowledge of test development, measurement principles, research methodology, data analysis, and psychometrics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead research plans supporting new product development and portfolio priorities.
• Provide subject-matter and scientific leadership in speech-language pathology, literacy, achievement, and/or early childhood assessment.
• Help define product scope and assessment design to be scientifically sound and clinically meaningful.
• Lead item development, review, and evaluation using research and clinical expertise.
• Partner with psychometricians to review data and psychometric findings.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI and emerging technologies to research and product innovation.
• Oversee assessment materials including digital interfaces and manuals.
• Support product commercialization with scientific resources and customer-facing materials.
• Represent Pearson through scholarly activities and conference presentations.
• Maintain flexibility in work hours to collaborate internationally (~10%).
• Travel approximately 10%.
