Job summary

Pearson is seeking a visionary Lead Specialist, Learning Scientist (Clinical) to guide research across cognition, language, and early childhood assessment. The role blends academic and clinical expertise to shape product strategies and research priorities.

You will collaborate across Content, Product, Psychometrics, and Digital Development, driving scientifically sound solutions and exploring AI-enabled innovations while supporting commercialization and customer training.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. required in a relevant field with demonstrated research leadership.
• 5+ years professional experience in speech-language pathology, literacy, or related areas.
• Clinical experience administering or interpreting standardized assessments.
• Strong knowledge of test development, measurement principles, and psychometrics.
• Ability to translate scientific evidence into strategic recommendations balancing rigor and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead research plans supporting new product development and portfolio priorities.
• Provide subject-matter and scientific leadership in speech-language pathology, literacy, and early childhood assessment.
• Define product scope and assessment design aligned with customer needs and business goals.
• Lead item development, review, and evaluation applying research and best practices.
• Partner with psychometricians to review data and findings; interpret results for product decisions.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI and emerging technologies to assessment development and workflows.
• Oversee assessment materials including digital interfaces and scoring resources.
• Support product commercialization with scientific expertise in training and customer resources.
• Represent Pearson through conferences, publications, and scholarly activities.
