Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, NY seeks a Crew Leader S11 to operate heavy landscape and construction equipment, lead crews, and coordinate winter snow removal. The role requires a strong safety focus, diverse teamwork, and the ability to plan and estimate projects.

A NYS pesticide license or ability to obtain one is required within 3 years, with CDL-B preferred. The position is on-site in Ithaca with union-based compensation and a starting pay rate of $33.19/hour.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• NYS Commercial Pesticide License or obtain within 3 years.
• Six years’ landscape maintenance and construction experience, including three years operating heavy equipment (>25,000 lbs.) and leading crews.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Team leadership and customer service orientation.
• Proven safety judgment and problem solving.
• Experience reading plans, specs, manuals and blueprints.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL-B or obtain within 6 months.
• Pre-employment drug test and random testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate and guide a wide range of landscape and construction equipment (>25,000 lbs.).
• Perform routine maintenance and install/construct landscape features.
• Lead and coordinate work crews; plan, schedule and estimate jobs.
• Respond to emergencies; on-call 24/7; winter snow operations.
• Ensure safe operations; report unsafe conditions; train others on equipment use.
