Job summary

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator for the Millersville Landfill. The role involves safe operation of bulldozers, loaders, compactors, excavators, and support vehicles, with training responsibilities and certifications for staff.

Qualified applicants will have 6+ years in heavy construction equipment operation, a valid Class A or B CDL, and the ability to work after hours in a safety-sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or vocational training.
• Six (6) or more years of experience operating heavy construction vehicles, equipment, and power tools.
• A valid commercial Class A or B motor vehicle operator's license.

Responsibilities

• Safely operating heavy equipment including bulldozer, loader, compactor, excavator, and trucks to load, move, compact, and cover waste.
• Inspecting equipment and performing minor preventive maintenance.
• Conducting training and certifying employees for equipment operation.
• Reading GPS and survey data to determine grades and elevations for landfill construction.
• Responding to emergencies and working overtime as required.
