Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a full-time Professional Land Surveyor in Abilene, TX. The role guides survey crews, prepares survey documents, and represents the company to regulatory agencies, with travel as needed to support the Survey department.

The candidate will perform office and field tasks across land surveying, civil, and marine engineering projects, overseeing survey plans, and providing testimony when required. Strong communication and licensure are essential.

Qualifications

• Seven years of verifiable surveying experience in commercial/residential/industrial settings.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; state licensure in the applicable state.
• Proficient in reading measurements and using trigonometry/coordinate geometry.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with clients and team members.
• Ability to travel and stay overnight as needed to support Survey Department.

Responsibilities

• Perform office and field tasks related to surveying and civil/marine engineering projects.
• Prepare proposals and contracts for land surveying.
• Consult with clients and provide project guidance.
• Direct field crews and engineering technicians in surveying activities.
• Oversee all surveying aspects of projects and prepare survey plans.
• Provide land court and trial testimony as needed.
• Present project information at regulatory hearings.
• Prepare flood elevation certificates and review deeds/plans for accuracy.
• Ensure accurate data collection and reporting of survey computations.
• Use CAD to prepare survey plans and drawings.
• Participate in safety meetings and adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies.
