Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking an experienced IT Solutions Architect to lead architecture and integration for the WSF Electrification Program. The role focuses on hybrid electric vessel construction, charging infrastructure, cloud services, and OT/IT integration, with emphasis on cybersecurity, lifecycle costs, and operational readiness.

You will collaborate with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, vendors, and shipyards to translate project requirements

Qualifications

• Experience designing, integrating, administering, or supporting enterprise technology platforms.
• Ability to analyze requirements and develop actionable architecture recommendations.
• Ability to interpret technical diagrams, drawings, and vendor proposals; produce clear architecture, implementation, and support documentation.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, OT security concepts, vendor remote access controls, and risk management.
• Knowledge of technology lifecycle management, testing, and operational readiness.
• Strong technical leadership and communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary TSD technical lead for the WSF Electrification Program and lead development of architecture recommendations and technology requirements.
• Assess proposed infrastructure, communications, cloud, identity, and OT integration designs for compatibility with standards and operating conditions.
• Review engineering drawings, network diagrams, specs, vendor proposals, and implementation plans to identify dependencies and risks.
• Coordinate technology integration with engineering, system owners, enterprise teams, vendors, contractors, and shipyards with clear responsibilities for implementation and ongoing support.
• Work with the Cybersecurity Office and system owners to incorporate security requirements, segmentation, identity controls, and vendor remote access throughout the project lifecycle.
• Define testing and acceptance criteria including connectivity, failure recovery, security controls, and readiness for service.
• Develop operational transition requirements covering documentation, training, monitoring, licensing, warranties, and support agreements.
• Identify single points of failure and gaps in coverage; recommend improvements for availability and knowledge sharing.
• Present technical alternatives, risks, costs, and recommendations to project teams and leadership; document decisions and unresolved issues.
