Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks an experienced equipment operator with lead worker responsibilities for the Parks and Recreation Department. You will supervise and perform maintenance on municipal facilities, parks, beaches, and related property, ensuring safe, high‑quality work.

Lead assignments, record keeping, and coordinating repairs are core duties. A valid Class B license with airbrakes is required; experience in park/beach maintenance is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 3–5 years of experience in safe operation and maintenance of equipment, tree/beach/landscape maintenance, or parks facilities.
• Requires Class B with airbrakes.
• Desirable: Class A/ passenger endorsements and/or Public Ornamental and Turf Pest Control (O&T) license.
• Veterans’ Preference documentation may be required per Florida statutes.

Responsibilities

• Leads the work of assigned staff; delegates, reviews, and prioritizes work assignments.
• Supervises and participates in repairs and maintenance of municipal facilities, property, and city parks.
• Maintains records of maintenance and repair work; creates reports on equipment and projects.
• Operates or supervises operation of equipment related to the area of assignment.
