  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of Federal and State Special Education regulations and legal issues in Special Education
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of IEP writing
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of Clover School District Special Education Processes and Procedures
  • Demonstrates leadership in Special Education curriculum and instructional practices

General Responsibilities

The Intensive Needs Specialist fulfills duties consistent with school district policy and serves within the Special Education Department.

This is an itinerant position that provides services to all schools within the District.

This position is to work with administrators, special education teachers, and other staff to promote student success, and provide technical assistance to promote the successful inclusion and academic progress of students with significant cognitive disabilities who participate in a school curriculum that includes functional and life skills as well as academic instruction.

The content, learning objectives, and expected outcomes for the academic instruction are extended to focus on the emerging, readiness (prerequisite), foundational and/or functional (real life) application of the general curriculum.

The intensive needs specialist will collaborate in the evaluation and support of high-quality district special education programs.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, conduct, and evaluate staff development activities for teachers and administrators that support high quality instructional programs.
  • Mentor teachers/teaching assistants in providing high quality services to students with significant cognitive disabilities who participate in a school curriculum that includes adapted curriculum, functional and life skills.
  • Facilitate the process, procedure and evidence based instructional practices of the District SC High School Credential course of study.
  • Coordinate with the district data director on implementation of the SC-Alt Assessment.
  • Provide Alt Testing training to teachers and coordinate with DRC Administrative Assistant information for coding.
  • Model strategies to promote successful use of evidence based practices.
  • Responsible for ensuring students in intensive needs settings receive evidence-based instruction.
  • Coach special education teachers in delivering specialized instruction to students with intensive special needs with fidelity.
  • Coach teachers on individualized education program draft planning and development.
  • Facilitate development of instructional strategies and programming.
  • Coach teachers in utilizing strategies that promote data analysis to assist in adapting instruction to meet the individual needs of learners with intensive needs.
  • Conduct program evaluation that includes the collection and analysis of classroom and school data as part of ongoing program evaluation process.
  • Be informed of current issues and research related to educating students with intensive needs.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in the area of special education through participation in activities such as conferences, in service programs, professional organizations and college coursework.
Terms of Employment

190 days per year. Salary & Benefits per contract.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
