Job summary

The State of Vermont invites applications for an Examiner-in-Charge in the Captive Insurance Division. You will lead a team of examiners, conduct examinations of Vermont-domiciled captives, assess governance, strategy, IT systems, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong time management, organization, critical thinking, and communication, with travel to insurer offices as needed and optional remote work.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree with 2+ years in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including 2+ years in insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• Bachelor's degree with 4+ years in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including 2+ years in insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• One year as an Insurance Examiner III.
• Preferred: AFE, CFE, or CPA designations.
• Special requirement: obtain the CFE designation within 48 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of examiners in evaluating captive insurance company operations and governance.
• Conduct examinations and ongoing oversight focusing on risk and regulatory compliance.
• Perform research, assign special projects, and conduct annual/quarterly surveillance.
• Travel to insurer offices as needed.
