Job description

Mathnasium of Westmere, locally operated by Capital Region Math, is seeking a highly motivated Lead Instructor, shift lead, or lead teacher to join our team and help us change the way children learn math. This role is ideal for a passionate educator with a deep love for math, a gift for inspiring students, and an interest in both teaching and leading.

This is a key leadership and teaching role that requires you to be an expert in mathematics across all grade levels, from elementary school through high school (including Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus). You will be responsible for creating an encouraging and motivating learning environment, managing instructional flow, and leading a team of tutors.

During each shift, the Lead Instructor serves as the on-floor instructional leader and shift lead: helping manage student flow, supporting instructors with questions, monitoring student work, and keeping sessions organized and productive.

Our Westmere center is located in a convenient shopping plaza on Western Avenue with easy access from Albany, Guilderland, and surrounding communities.

Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Leadership: Teach students across K-12 math levels using the Mathnasium Method while modeling strong instructional habits for the team
  • Floor Management: Help manage student flow, help cards, seating, pacing, and transitions so sessions run smoothly
  • Instructor Support: Serve as the first point of support for instructors during shift and provide clear, in-the-moment coaching
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor student binders, learning plan progress, and work accuracy, and flag concerns to center leadership
  • Student & Family Experience: Maintain positive, professional interactions with students and families and help create a welcoming center environment
  • Center Operations: Support material prep, organization, cleaning, and shift task completion as part of the center team
Qualifications:
  • Math Proficiency: Strong command of mathematics from K-12, including advanced high school math, with calculus experience a plus
  • Experience: Previous teaching, tutoring, Mathnasium, or instructional leadership experience is highly preferred
  • Communication & Coaching: Clear verbal communication skills and comfort giving real-time support and constructive feedback to instructors
  • Floor Management: Able to manage multiple students, priorities, and team needs at once while staying organized and calm
  • Reliability: Must be reliable, punctual, and able to commit to at least 4 of the 5 weekly open shifts, plus preparation time before opening
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree (or pursuing one) in a related field (Mathematics, Education, Engineering, etc.) is strongly preferred
Schedule:

Part-time: Must be available for at least 4 of the 5 weekly open shifts, plus preparation time before opening. Mon–Thurs: 4:00–8:00 p.m., Sat: 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Benefits:
  • Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications
  • Opportunity to make a genuine, positive impact on students' lives and educational futures
  • A fun, supportive, and collaborative work environment
  • No lesson planning or grading outside of the center!
  • Leadership experience and career growth opportunities
