Job summary

BSA Hospital in Amarillo, TX is seeking a day-shift, full-time Lead Hyperbaric Technician to administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy and oversee chamber operations.

This role leads the clinic safety program, maintains equipment, and ensures compliant patient care per NFPA 99 standards, with certification requirements to be met within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in hyperbaric medicine or the diving industry.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire.
• Current CHT or CHS certification required, or ability to obtain within 180 days.
• Must maintain applicable state healthcare licensure during employment.
• Completion of Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course from recognized bodies (DoD, NBHMT, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider.
• Ensure the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and assess materials for use around chambers.
• Lead the clinic safety program and serve as Safety Director per NFPA 99.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Program Director, the Lead Hyperbaric Tech administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider.


• This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.


• The position is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.


• The Lead Hyperbaric Technician will also lead all staff in the safety program for the clinic and will be designated Safety Director, a requirement through NFPA 99.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (General Educational Development).


• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


• Minimum of one (2) year of experience in hyperbaric medicine or the diving industry is required.


• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.


• Specific training and/or experience in compression chamber operations.


• Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification required, or ability to obtain within 180 days, to maintain throughout the duration of employment in this role.


• Pre- or post-hire completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course (from Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine).


• Current healthcare professional certification or license as applicable in the state of practice, to be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this role. This applies to:

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
  
  
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist.
  
  
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant.
  
  
  • Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist.
  
  
  • Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant.

• Completion of Hyperbaric Training from the US Department of Defense (DOD):

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Wound care, hyperbaric medicine, and/or experience in emergency medicine or acute medical care.


• Including demonstrated knowledge of safety and decompression tables.


• Knowledge of NFPA 99 standards.
