Job summary

The U.S. Geological Survey's California Water Science Center seeks a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician in Sacramento/West Sacramento to lead field and office teams.

You will supervise staff, oversee complex instrumentation, ensure safety, and coordinate projects with Federal, State, and local partners.

Occasional travel and a demanding physical work environment are expected; successful candidates will undergo medical and background checks.

Qualifications

• Selectee must possess a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Pre-employment medical examination is required.
• Background investigation will be required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor staff: Plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises field and office activities.
• Oversee hydrologic instrumentation and data collection: Installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and QA of records.
• Provide technical leadership and training: Acts as technical authority, trains staff, develops procedures and documentation.
• Manage hydrologic projects: Develops budgets, monitors milestones, coordinates staffing and procurement.
• Promote scientific integrity and quality: Ensures compliance with Fundamental Science Practices and prepares data for publication.
• Ensure property and resource management: Oversees government property and related compliance.
• Promotes workplace safety: Enforces safety policies and PPE usage.
