Job summary

U.S. Geological Survey in California's Water Science Center seeks GS-12 level specialists in the Projects Section for vacancies in Sacramento and West Sacramento.

You will work in the field to install, calibrate, and maintain hydrologic equipment, collect discharge and water quality data, and prepare data products and summaries for release. Successful candidates will document methods clearly, support data quality assurance, and may provide guidance to peers on field methods and safety.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in the Federal service.
• Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot hydrologic instrumentation in field conditions.
• Compute, validate, and document hydrologic records and datasets for publication.
• Plan and conduct field data-collection activities, including discharge measurements and water quality measurements.
• Prepare technical summaries, tables, maps, or data releases with clearly documented methods.
• Provide training or guidance to peers on field methods, data processing procedures, instrumentation use, or safety requirements.

Filling one vacancy in each of the following locations:

• Sacramento, CA (1 vacancy).
• West Sacramento, CA (2 vacancies).

For GS-12:

Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-12 level:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include:

• Independently install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot hydrologic instrumentation in varying field conditions.
• Compute, validate, and document hydrologic records, including performing quality-assurance tests and preparing approved datasets for publication.
• Plan and execute field data-collection activities such as conducting discharge measurements, water quality measurements, and collecting water samples.
• Prepare technical summaries, tables, maps, or supporting materials for hydrologic publications or data release.
• Ensure accuracy and clearly documented methods.
• Provide training or technical guidance to peers or junior staff on field methods, data processing procedures, instrumentation use, or safety requirements.
