Job summary

Koger Talent is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer for our Roanoke, VA office to design HVAC systems across a diverse range of projects. The role involves leading HVAC design, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with architects and clients to ensure design intent is met.

You will perform load calculations, energy modeling, and develop from concept to construction documentation, while applying building codes and standards.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia (mechanical).
• 7–10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong HVAC design background across building types.
• Proficiency in design load calculation software (Trane Trace or similar).
• Experience with energy modeling programs (ComCheck, etc.).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to mentor junior staff and work in a team-based environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC design for diverse building projects (educational, civic, arts, commercial).
• Perform design load calculations and energy modeling to optimize systems.
• Develop mechanical designs from concept through construction documentation.
• Apply building codes and energy standards in designs.
• Select equipment, design ductwork and piping, coordinate with disciplines.
• Prepare specifications and technical documentation for mechanical systems.
• Manage project timelines and budgets; monitor submittals and RFIs.
• Conduct site visits to verify conformance with design intent.
