Job summary

Amgen Inc. (IR) seeks an Assoc. Director for Human Data & Computational Biology to establish and lead the capability within Rare Disease Research. You will partner across disease areas, integrating genetics, multi-omics, patient data, and computational methods to identify and validate therapeutic opportunities.

The role combines deep computational expertise with biology intuition, and involves recruiting and leading future computational biology teams as the function grows.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree with 3+ years applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions.
  • Master’s degree with 7+ years analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions.
  • Associate’s degree with 12+ years analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions.
  • High school diploma with 14+ years analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop computational strategies that support target discovery, validation, and prioritization.
  • Analyze large-scale datasets across genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, imaging, and clinical data.
  • Leverage human genetic evidence to strengthen disease understanding and hypothesis generation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to integrate human genetics into early-stage discovery.
  • Establish scalable analytical workflows applicable across multiple disease areas.
  • Evaluate emerging AI-enabled approaches to accelerate scientific insight generation.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate new technologies and methods into Rare Disease Research operations.
  • Translate computational findings into actionable biological insights with disease biology pods.
  • Contribute to scientific evaluations of external opportunities and collaborations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to project teams and leadership groups.
  • Promote human-data-driven decision making.
  • Participate in recruiting, developing, and leading future computational biology team members.
