Position: Assoc. Director Human Data & Computational Biology
What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will help establish and lead the Human Data & Computational Biology capability within the Rare Disease Research Team. You will serve as a scientific partner across multiple disease areas, integrating human genetics, multi-omics, patient-derived data, and computational approaches to identify, prioritize, and validate novel therapeutic opportunities. We are seeking a scientist who combines deep computational expertise with strong biological intuition and a passion for understanding disease mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement computational strategies that support target discovery, validation, and prioritization.
  • Analyze and interpret large-scale biological datasets, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, imaging, and clinical data.
  • Leverage human genetic evidence to strengthen disease understanding and therapeutic hypothesis generation.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external partners to integrate human genetics into early-stage discovery programs.
  • Establish scalable analytical workflows and approaches that can be applied across multiple disease areas.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging computational and AI-enabled approaches that accelerate scientific insight generation.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate new technologies and analytical methods into the Rare Disease Research operating model.
  • Work closely with disease biology pods to frame biological questions and translate computational findings into actionable scientific insights.
  • Contribute to scientific evaluations of external opportunities, collaborations, and business development activities.
  • Present scientific findings and recommendations to project teams, governance forums, and leadership groups.
  • Establish processes and frameworks that promote human-data-driven decision making.
  • As the function grows, participate in recruiting, developing, and leading future computational biology team members.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree and 3 years of experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions

OR

  • Masters degree and 7 years of analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions

OR

  • Bachelors degree and 9 years of analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions

OR

  • Associates degree and 12 years of analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions

OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 14 years of analytics experience applying computational approaches to biological and translational research questions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in human genetics, genomics, computational biology, or multi-omics analysis.
  • Strong track record of applying computational approaches to understand disease biology and identify therapeutic opportunities.
  • Ability to translate complex computational findings into clear biological insights and actionable scientific recommendations.
  • Experience working across multiple disease areas and integrating diverse biological datasets to answer challenging scientific questions.
  • Deep curiosity about disease mechanisms and a demonstrated passion for solving biological problems.
  • Experience partnering closely with experimental scientists to drive discovery and target validation efforts.
  • Experience leveraging human genetics to support target identification, validation, and prioritization.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, AI-enabled discovery approaches, knowledge graphs, or advanced analytical methods is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence scientific strategy within highly collaborative and matrixed organizations.
  • Experience mentoring scientists and contributing to development of high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively with scientists, leadership teams, and external collaborators.
  • High learning agility, scientific curiosity, and comfort operating in rapidly evolving research environments.
  • Passion for building new capabilities, embracing innovation, and advancing the future of data-driven rare disease discovery.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
