Job Summary

Summary

Supports the organization's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting behaviors such as excellence in maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and attractive environment throughout all hospital departments, patient areas, and support areas, including hospital-controlled zones. Performs discharge cleaning as needed. Communicates effectively with nursing staff, unit coordinators, practice administrators, patients, the public, etc., as part of the healthcare team.

Essential Functions
  • Leadership
    • Schedules and assigns duties for the shift, ensuring work meets quality standards.
    • Trains new employees.
    • Assists in scheduling time-off for environmental services employees.
    • Maintains quality activities in assigned areas.
    • Performs other duties requiring similar skill and effort.
    • Prepares for higher responsibilities by performing work of a higher level if needed.
  • Physical Demands
  • Requires ability to stand long periods, bend, stoop, and lift.

  • Cleaning Procedures
  • Performs 8-step cleaning, discharge cleaning, bed making, wall spotting, toilet cleaning, dusting, and terminal cleaning of ORs.

  • Safety and Reporting
  • Works professionally and safely, using caution signs and cones. Reports incomplete work and maintenance issues.

  • Biohazard Waste Management
  • Cleans organic waste as instructed, manages waste disposal, and inspects equipment for cleanliness and repair.

  • Equipment and Standards
  • Ensures equipment is clean and in good condition, maintains high standards, and participates in training and quality assurance activities.

  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Schedules and trains staff, monitors adherence to procedures, and supports departmental needs.
    Qualifications

    Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

    Experience: 3-5 years in customer service and floor/carpet care; prior lead experience preferred.

    Skills & Abilities: Ability to communicate in English, understand medical terminology, follow procedures, demonstrate sensitivity, cooperate with healthcare team, and perform manual tasks including cleaning and equipment handling.

    Physical Requirements

    Includes standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, and visual and auditory tasks, with specified frequencies.
