Job summary

South Suburban Park & Recreation District seeks a Lead Maintenance Specialist for Hudson Gardens Horticulture. This full-time, non-exempt position oversees planting, landscape maintenance, and staff coordination at Hudson Gardens.

Under the Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll schedule activities, manage irrigation and pesticide applications, train volunteers, ensure safety, and maintain records, contributing to the gardens’ health and productivity.

Qualifications

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• One year of skilled labor in horticulture or landscape maintenance with emphasis on flowers, roses, shrubs and trees including knowledge of cultural requirements, growth habits, pruning, pests, and environmental problems.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or Landscape Management preferred.
• Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Maintain horticultural displays and beds, assisting in design and renovation of shrub or flower beds.
• Train personnel in horticulture and snow removal techniques.
• Schedule, coordinate, and supervise planting, maintenance, and watering for trees, shrubs, and flowers; manage volunteers as needed.
• Perform pesticide applications as part of Integrated Pest Management.
• Oversee record-keeping: activity reports, pesticide reports, landscape inventories, and planting dates; update Tree Plotter and GIS.
• Ensure safety and proper maintenance of tools and equipment; assist with budgeting and purchasing.
