Job summary

South Suburban Parks and Recreation is seeking a Full Time, Non-Exempt Horticulture Technician to schedule, coordinate, assign and evaluate planting and landscape maintenance projects at Hudson Gardens, including flowers, roses, shrubs and interior foliage.

You will train staff, oversee volunteer gardening programs, manage pesticide applications, irrigation scheduling, and prepare planting plans while maintaining records and budgets; you must operate safely and work weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or Landscape Management is preferred.
• Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Maintains horticultural displays including turf, beds, shrubs, and interior plants.
• Assists with training personnel in horticulture and snow removal techniques.
• Schedules and coordinates watering regimes for trees, shrubs and flowers; waters and fertilizes as needed.
• Performs pesticide applications following Integrated Pest Management guidelines.
• Oversees planting, weeding, harvesting, and volunteer gardening tasks.
• Maintains records such as planting, maintenance, and removal dates; updates Tree Plotter and GIS.
