Job summary

National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation in Arlington, Texas seeks a Lead Honor Guide to serve as ambassador, lead tours, support visitor experiences, and coordinate the Honor Guide team.

This role works with the Sr. Manager of Interpretation & Content Strategy and MOD to ensure smooth operations, train staff, and align tours with museum content.

Candidates should have a degree in education or museum studies, museum experience, and ability to work evenings or weekends.

Role Summary

As a Lead Honor Guide, you will play a key role in the educational mission of the National Medal of Honor Museum by serving as an ambassador for the Museum and providing engaging, educational, and fact-based experiences for visitors of all ages. The Lead Honor Guide performs the same essential functions as an Honor Guide, including leading tours, supporting visitor experiences, delivering field trips and family programming, and maintaining accurate and engaging Museum content.

When serving in the Lead capacity, this position provides daily coordination and peer support for the Honor Guide team. The Lead Honor Guide works closely with the Sr. Manager of Interpretation & Content Strategy and/or the rotating Manager on Duty (MOD) to support daily operations and serves as a resource to Honor Guides, particularly in tour preparation, training, and the overall visitor experience.

In addition, this role will work with the Research, Exhibits & Collections (“REC”) and Education departments to study the Museum’s collection, exhibits, and historical content to align and develop tours and programs with visitor interests and public inquiry.

Essential Functions

Lead Responsibilities

When designated as the Lead Honor Guide, the employee will:

• Coordinate daily tour assignments and break rotations for Honor Guides.
• Serve as the primary liaison between Honor Guides and the Manager on Duty regarding Exhibit Desk and other operational needs.
• Monitor Honor Guide operations and help ensure appropriate coverage and readiness for scheduled tours and programs.
• Occasionally listen to or observe tours and provide constructive peer feedback and support.
• Assist new Honor Guides with training, tour practice, preparation, and certification activities.
• Serve as a resource to Honor Guides regarding tour content, visitor engagement, and daily procedures.
• Communicate significant operational, training, or performance concerns to the Manager on Duty or appropriate manager.

Honor Guide Responsibilities

• Lead tours of the Museum’s exhibits, highlighting key themes, historical contexts, and artifacts.
• Support daily tour operation by assisting with tour logistics, setup, and inventory.
• Adapt tour delivery to suit the interests and needs of diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and adult visitors.
• Monitor the Museum guest experience, provide wayfinding guidance, and address visitor inquiries about exhibits, programs, and Museum policies.
• Facilitate the Dustoff virtual reality experience.
• Deliver field trips and family programming for schools, youth organizations, and families visiting the Museum.
• Ensure that all content delivered to Museum visitors is accurate.
• Collaborate with REC and Educations departments to assess and evaluate tours and programming.
• Represent the museum positively and professionally.
• All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, history, or related field.
• Experience working or volunteering in a museum environment as a docent, gallery attendant, or tour guide.
• Experience teaching or working with multigenerational audiences.
• Experience with leading guest-facing teams.
• Basic familiarity with Medal of Honor history.
• Bilingual (Spanish speaking) a plus.
