Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a skilled critical care transport paramedic to lead high-acuity patient care during interfacility transfers and ground/air missions. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3 years of experience in a high volume, high acuity EMS system at a minimum ALS level of care or critical care interfacility transport.
• Current Nationally Registered Paramedic.
• Paramedic license issued by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services.
• Active BLS certification.
• Active ACLS certification.
• Active PALS certification.
• Obtain CCP-C or FP-C certification within 18 months of hire.
• NRP and STABLE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides, directs and coordinates clinical care within the critical care transport environment and is accountable for the processes and outcomes of care delivered to patients.
• Conducts comprehensive patient assessment, integrating multiple data sources, which forms the basis for identification of patient/family needs and problems.
• Observes patients in a systematic way for both overt and covert clinical signs and symptoms.
• Assess patients needs prior to and during transport and implements a patient-specific plan of care to address noted needs.
• Facilitates effective transportation of patients between referring and receiving institutions. Works with UMAC and multidisciplinary teams.
• Initiates immediate life support therapies under orders/guidelines, including medications, EKG monitoring, CPR, intubation, ventilator operation, ECMO/IABP management.
• Responds to internal/external crisis interventions and Go Team requests.
• Provides comprehensive reports to the receiving medical team on patient status and interventions.
• Uses available resources to provide comprehensive care to patients and families.
• Evaluates and revises care plans reflecting patient status and family needs.
• Continuously assesses, monitors, intervenes, and stabilizes critically ill patients during transport.
• Leads unit-based initiatives for process improvement and data collection.
• Coaches others and serves as a mentor to MEC staff.
• Leads and participates in educational and quality improvement initiatives.
