Job summary

El Paso County is seeking a Lead Equipment Operator to support the Urban Drainage Crew in our Public Works Department. The role involves leading daily activities, operating a range of heavy equipment, inspecting and maintaining drainage systems, and providing safety training to team members.

The position is in-person with a 6:30am–5:00pm schedule, Monday to Thursday, and on-call duties. Applicants must have a Colorado Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement and complete required certifications.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in maintenance, repair, construction, or related field.
• Three years of experience operating heavy equipment.
• One year of leadership experience in a public works environment.
• Six months of experience using computers and software including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support daily activities of the Urban Drainage crew, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
• Operate excavators, backhoes, loaders, graders, and specialized trucks.
• Inspect, install, clean, and maintain drainage systems to reduce flooding risks.
