Job summary

City of Denton is seeking a heavy equipment operator responsible for operating large equipment used in street maintenance and construction. You will patch, lower manholes, install drainage pipes, and perform routine checks on gear and machine safety.

The role requires leadership to coordinate crew activities, and training of other operators, with opportunities to assist skilled trades such as asphalt laying and drainage work. Willingness to work outdoors is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years’ experience operating heavy equipment in construction.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Valid CDL with Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment over 26,000 pounds.
  • Performs maintenance tasks like patching and drainage work.
  • Inspects equipment before and after use; reports issues.
  • Coordinates activities as crew leader for maintenance staff.
  • Trains other operators and assists with asphalt and drainage tasks.
  • May perform other skilled tasks in related fields such as drainage, water or wastewater.
  • Interacts with customers to discuss service problems and reports to supervisor.
  • Maintains regular on-site attendance.
