Sunrock seeks an expert Heavy Equipment Operator to join our grading and utility operations team in North Carolina. The role requires operating multiple heavy machines with precision, performing finish grade work, and interpreting grade controls for complex sitework.

You will mentor junior operators, coordinate with foremen, and maintain safety and quality standards across projects. A strong drive and independent work style are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years OR 10,000+ hours of heavy equipment operation in grading/utilities
• Proven ability to perform finish/fine grade work
• Strong understanding of elevations, slopes, blueprints, grade control
• Operate multiple equipment types at high skill level
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required
• Advanced machine control and precision work
• Strong decision-making and situational awareness
• Ability to mentor others and work with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, skid steers, and trenching equipment at an expert level
• Perform finish grade and fine grade work for grading, utilities, and civil projects
• Interpret grade stakes and GPS grade control; manage cut/fill and slope tolerances
• Execute trenching, backfilling, pipe installation, and site prep
• Lead by example in production, quality, and safety
• Perform equipment checks, troubleshooting, and basic repairs
• Mentor less experienced operators and assist foremen with on-site coordination
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NCDOT, and company policies
