Job summary

Baltimore County is seeking a skilled maintenance mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline powered trucks and heavy construction equipment. You will work on hydraulic and electrical systems, overhaul engines, transmissions, and brakes, and perform welding and fabrication as needed.

Responsibilities include leading less skilled workers, testing equipment, and possibly performing field repairs. A minimum of five years in automotive repair and two years in heavy equipment is required,

Qualifications

• Five years' experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
• Two years in heavy truck and heavy construction equipment engines and special components, including diesel, track, and hydraulic equipment.
• Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Repairs, rebuilds, and maintains diesel and gasoline powered trucks weighing one ton or more and heavy construction equipment.
• Overhauls and repairs gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, and brakes.
• Repairs and replaces damaged body parts.
• Installs, repairs, maintains aerial ladders, pumps, warning devices, and other specialized equipment used on fire and medical emergency vehicles.
• Leads and instructs lesser skilled workers.
• Road tests and operates equipment; may perform repairs in the field.
