Baseline Contracting, Inc. is seeking a Lead Heavy Equipment & Heavy Highway Fleet Diesel Technician to lead diagnostics, maintenance, and overhauls for our eastern PA fleet in Coplay, PA.

You will work in a central shop with field support, focusing on heavy civil equipment and Class 8 trucks for bridge and PennDOT projects. Ideal candidates have 3+ years on heavy trucks or yellow iron, strong diesel/hydraulic knowledge, and the ability to read schematics and diagnostics software.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy-duty trucks or yellow iron equipment.
• Fluency with diesel engines, hydraulics, air brakes, and power transmission assemblies.
• Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software.

Responsabilités

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and overhaul heavy-duty diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Remove, repair, and install engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, and pumps.
• Diagnose electrical faults including CAN bus and ECM modules.
• Coordinate repairs with project leaders and manage parts inventory.

The Opportunity

Baseline Contracting, Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Heavy Equipment & Heavy Highway Fleet Diesel Technician to join our Equipment & Fleet Maintenance team in Coplay, PA.

In this central shop and field-supported technical role, you will take operational command over mechanical overhauls, electronic diagnostics, hydraulic system rebuilds, and preventative maintenance for our heavy civil yellow iron (excavators, slipform concrete pavers, dozers) and Class 8 vocational transport trucks. Supporting high-visibility bridge, turnpike, and PennDOT projects across Eastern Pennsylvania, you will ensure our fleet maintains 100% operational readiness. If you bring a strong background in heavy-duty diesel diagnostics, hydraulic schematics, and structural shop repairs, Baseline Contracting provides year-round stability with no seasonal winter layoffs, dependable weekly pay, and access to premium prevailing wage contracts.

Key Responsibilities

• Heavy Machinery Diagnostics & Overhauls: Inspect, troubleshoot, and overhaul heavy-duty diesel engines, multi-phase hydraulic systems, power transmission units, and electronic control modules (ECM).
• Powertrain & Component Rebuilding: Remove, repair, and install complete diesel engines, transmissions, heavy-duty axles, air brake systems, hydraulic pumps, steering linkages, and suspension arrays.
• Electrical System Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex electrical faults—including starting/charging systems, CAN bus communications, sensor arrays, lighting harnesses, and tracking modules.
• Preventive Maintenance Administration: Execute comprehensive fleet maintenance schedules to maximize asset reliability and prevent unexpected jobsite downtime during critical concrete pours or bridge sets.
• Custom Fabrication & Welding: Perform oxy-fuel cutting, torching, and structural welding (MIG/Stick) to modify equipment mounts, reinforce bucket attachments, and repair structural brackets.
• Field & Shop Coordination: Partner directly with project superintendents to prioritize equipment repair schedules, manage parts inventory, and document service logs using digital fleet software.
• Shop Stewardship & Safety Enforcement: Maintain a clean, organized, safety-first shop bay environment that adheres strictly to OSHA and company safety standards.

What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

Required

• Professional Diesel Tenure: Minimum 3 years of verified experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy-duty commercial trucks (Class 8) or heavy diesel-powered construction equipment (yellow iron).
• Systems & Hydraulic Fluency: Working knowledge of diesel engine architecture, high-pressure hydraulic circuits, air brake systems, and heavy equipment power transmission assemblies.
• Schematic & Diagnostic Literacy: Ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference industrial service manuals, hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and laptop diagnostic software.
• Mobility Credentials: Valid Driver License with a clean, insurable driving record.
• Physical Capability: Ability to maneuver heavy powertrain components, work comfortably in shop bays and outdoor field environments, and lift up to 50+ lbs continuously.

Preferred

• Fleet Scope Versatility: Cross-functional experience maintaining both heavy civil machinery (excavators, pavers, rollers, loaders) and Class 8 vocational vehicles (dump trucks, lowboys, service trucks).
• Licensing & Inspection Credentials: Active Pennsylvania State Inspection License or Commercial Driver License (CDL Class A or B).
• Trade Certifications: Manufacturer diagnostic credentials (CAT, Cummins, Deere) or AWS welding certifications.
