Job summary

Anne Arundel County's Department of Public Works seeks a Full Time Solid Waste Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks and related equipment used for solid waste management facilities and residential collection. The role emphasizes leading a small team, diagnosing issues, and performing engine, transmission, and undercarriage repairs.

Qualified candidates will hold a Class A CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsements, and ASE certifications (T1, T2, T4, T8) or the ability to obtain them

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in skilled repair of complex diesel or gasoline vehicles and equipment.
• Graduation from high school or vocational school with electrical, hydraulic, or instrumentation coursework.
• A valid Class A CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsements.
• ASE certifications T1, T2, T4, and T8 or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Lead the solid waste mechanic team; guide and supervise lower-level mechanics.
• Schedule and coordinate all repairs for vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Perform heavy maintenance and repairs on engines, transmissions, final drive seals, and undercarriages.
• Monitor and arrange parts and vendor pricing; prepare reports and work orders.
• Operate the fuel service truck and uphold safety procedures; participate in recycling initiatives.
