Job summary

AZAK is seeking a Lead Ground Autonomy Engineer to own the autonomy stack for unmanned ground vehicles in complex environments. You will steer control design, motion planning, and perception integration, delivering reliable software for live testing with real terrain constraints.

We require non-traditional thinking, extreme ownership, and the ability to guide architecture decisions while mentoring cross-functional teams. This Denver-based role includes travel, equity, and performance bonuses.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in robotics or autonomous ground systems.
  • Deep expertise in autonomy software, motion planning, controls, and real-world integration.
  • Able to think non-traditionally and optimize lightweight modular systems.
  • Willingness to travel frequently on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the on-vehicle autonomy team end-to-end, delivering mission-ready software.
  • Design and implement control algorithms and motion planning for varied terrains.
  • Develop modular autonomy stacks and streamlined perception pipelines (ROS2-based).
  • Field test, debug, and quantify autonomy performance.
  • Mentor teammates and collaborate with embedded, hardware, and mission software teams.
  • Translate ground mission needs into functional autonomy capabilities.
