Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL, seeks an experienced Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) Lead Electrical Engineer within our Grid Group. The role focuses on GIS project leadership, mentoring teams, and coordinating design deliverables for gas- and air-insulated substations.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in GIS/AIS layout and design, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office. This role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in-office and relocation options based on location.

Qualifications

• BSEE degree from ABET-accredited electrical engineering program.
• 10+ years experience in physical layout and design of Gas Insulated and Air Insulated Substations.
• Knowledge of physical design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models.
• Ability to relate equipment to a technical design and apply engineering science & technology.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Experience in reviewing design drawings.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead GIS engineering design and project management for GIS/AIS substations.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert for GIS projects and mentor junior/senior engineers.
• Participate in industry code/standards committees (IEEE, CIGRE).
• Guide project conceptualization, work planning, and execution for GIS and select AIS projects.
• Prepare specifications, reports, and deliverables (GA, equipment plans, grounding, panels).
• Travel to client sites as needed.
