Job summary

Diamondback E&P LLC is seeking a Lead GIS Architect to drive the enterprise GIS strategy, architecture, and long‑term roadmap across cloud and on‑prem environments. You will design, implement, and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise, oversee geodatabase landscapes, and ensure security and reliability across platforms.

You will mentor GIS teams, collaborate with IT and business stakeholders, and evaluate new geospatial technologies to support Diamondback's upstream operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of GIS experience with ArcGIS Enterprise architecture and administration.
  • 5+ years leading enterprise GIS infrastructure, servers, and databases.
  • 8+ years of oil and gas industry experience.
  • Advanced expertise in GIS architecture, enterprise systems administration, geospatial data management, and platform security.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), virtualization, networking, and enterprise DB administration.
  • Proven leadership in enterprise GIS initiatives, technology strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the enterprise GIS platform.
  • Design, implement, administer, and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environments.
  • Manage GIS infrastructure across cloud and on-premises with emphasis on performance, availability, and security.
  • Oversee enterprise geodatabases, system integrations, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Establish GIS governance, architecture standards, security controls, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Direct software upgrades, migrations, patching, and platform modernization.
  • Partner with IT, cybersec, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and reliable GIS solutions.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to GIS professionals and cross-functional teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation in geospatial landscape.

Job description

The Lead GIS Architect serves as the technical leader and primary architect for the enterprise GIS platform, responsible for the strategy, design, administration, security, and long-term roadmap of GIS infrastructure and technologies. This role leads the development and optimization of enterprise geospatial systems across cloud and on-premises environments while providing technical leadership, governance, and mentorship to ensure a scalable, secure, and reliable GIS ecosystem that supports business objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, administer, and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environments and supporting infrastructure.
  • Manage GIS infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring performance, scalability, availability, and security.
  • Oversee enterprise geodatabases, system integrations, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Establish and maintain GIS governance, architecture standards, security controls, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Direct software upgrades, migrations, patching, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Partner with IT, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and reliable GIS solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to GIS professionals and cross-functional teams.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten (10+) years of GIS experience, including extensive ArcGIS Enterprise architecture and administration experience.
  • Five (5+) years of experience leading enterprise GIS infrastructure, servers, and database environments.
  • Eight (8+) years of oil and gas industry experience.
  • Advanced expertise in GIS architecture, enterprise systems administration, geospatial data management, and platform security.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), virtualization, networking, and enterprise database administration.
  • Proven leadership experience driving enterprise GIS initiatives, technology strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Esri Enterprise Administration certification or equivalent hands-on certification experience.
  • Experience supporting upstream oil and gas operations, surface infrastructure, facilities, and associated datasets.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure design and administration (AWS, Azure, or similar), including containerization and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Working knowledge of IT security practices, identity management (SSO/SAML/Active Directory), and network architecture as applied to enterprise systems.
  • Experience establishing GIS governance standards, systems administration best practices, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovative GIS infrastructure and architecture solutions.
  • Proven attention to detail and ability to solve complex technical and business challenges.
