Job summary

Florida State University in Tallahassee seeks a CLIA Laboratory Director/Open Rank Professor for a 12-month salaried position in CLIA Lab Diagnostics - Medicine. The role reports to the Institute for Pediatric Rare Diseases (IPRD) within the College of Medicine and leads quality, compliance, and test result approval.

You will supervise variant scientists and genetic counselors, contribute to assay validation and quality improvement, and provide clinical interpretation and reports for genome

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution with training in genetics, genomics, human genetics, or a related field.
• Board certification/eligibility (ABMGG - LGG).
• Eligible for Florida licensure as a Laboratory Director.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-complexity CLIA laboratory.
• Strong background in next-generation sequencing, preferably genome sequencing.
• Demonstrated leadership in laboratory management, quality assurance, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director with accountability for quality, compliance, and test result approval.
• Ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, CMS, and Florida Department of Health regulations.
• Participate in formulating laboratory policies, standard operating procedures, and quality management systems.
• Supervise variant scientists and genetic counselors.
• Participate in validation of assays, proficiency testing, and continual quality improvement.
• Have primary responsibility for final clinical interpretation and written reports for all clinical genome sequencing cases.
• Provide consultation to clinicians and genetic counselors on test utilization and interpretation.
• Partner with IPRD leadership to expand services statewide and build collaborations with healthcare systems and industry.
