Job summary

Type One Energy Group, Inc. in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Lead Laboratory Technical Associate to support fusion fuel cycle development in a high‑precision lab. You will assemble equipment, plan experiments, and mentor staff while upholding UHV and cryogenic safety standards.

This permanent, full‑time role reports to the Senior VP of Program Management and offers a hybrid work policy, stock options, insurance plans, and retirement benefits as part of a competitive package.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in a development lab using UHV systems and instruments.
• Solid understanding of the globally harmonized system of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS).
• Experience using SDS and applying them to experimental planning, safety measures, and PPE.
• In-depth knowledge of UHV systems, components, instruments, and best practices.
• Experience with cryogenic systems including cryocoolers, liquid nitrogen, and liquid helium.
• Mechanical and electrical assembly skills for UHV and cryogenic equipment.
• In depth knowledge of data acquisition and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Assembling equipment, sub-systems, instruments and data acquisition for a fusion fuel cycle development lab using UHV best practices.
• Planning, writing procedures, and performing experiments.
• Mentoring and teaching laboratory personnel how to operate UHV systems, compressed gas systems, and associated equipment safely.
• Manage laboratory equipment and consumables.
• Must be able to present experimental results to engineers and scientists.
